Privacy Policy

The short version

Everything you enter into TallyPal (groups, names, expenses, photos and settlements) is saved in your browser on your own device. We don't have accounts, we don't run a database, and we can't see your data.

What stays on your device

  • Groups, participant names, expenses, receipt photos and settlements, stored in your browser's IndexedDB
  • Small preferences in localStorage: theme, whether you've seen the welcome screens and install prompt, and your settings toggles

Clearing your browser's site data or uninstalling the app deletes all of it. We can't recover it for you, so export a backup from Settings now and then.

What reaches a server

  • Our hosting (Railway): when you load the app, your browser downloads it from our server, which is hosted on Railway. Like any web server, it sees your IP address, browser type and the page requested, and Railway may keep short-lived request logs to run the service. None of your expense data is ever sent.
  • Google Fonts: the app loads the Inter font from Google, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when the font is fetched. See Google's privacy policy for how they handle that.

Backups

Export creates a JSON file on your device containing all your TallyPal data, including photos. Where it goes after that is up to you. Anyone you send it to can read it, so share it only with people in the group. When you import a backup, TallyPal checks every record and skips anything malformed.

No tracking

No cookies, no analytics, no ads and no tracking pixels. We don't sell, share or profile anything, because we never receive your data in the first place.

Your control

  • See everything: all your data is visible in the app
  • Take it with you: export a backup any time
  • Delete it: remove any expense or group, or clear all data in Settings
